The Specialty Food Shop was originally established in 1982. Its mission was to help children and adults live well with a variety of special dietary needs. Twenty-five years later, the Specialty Food Shop, located in The Hospital for Sick Children, is still providing people of all ages with products and services to help maintain health. The Specialty Food Shop is owned and operated by SickKids. All proceeds go to support research, patient care and initiatives at this hospital.
The Specialty Food Shop's physical store is in The Hospital for Sick Children located in downtown Toronto. The Shop is supported by a toll-free 1-800 line and a Shop Online e-store. By calling 1-800-737-7976, you can speak to our customer service staff to place an order. You can also shop online using our secure e-commerce site. All of our home delivery orders are sent via Purolator Courier who offers competitive shipping rates.

Registered Dietitians (RDs) who market the store, write nutrition articles and respond to customer inquiries via e-mail, by phone or in-store.
An assistant manager with a Bachelors of Applied Science (BASc) in Food and Nutrition
Nutrition associates who have a minimum of two years of nutrition education and are specially trained by the shop’s registered dietitians to provide excellent customer service
A diet technician who dispenses products from Ministry of Health programs
The Specialty Food Shop serves unique customers with food allergies, celiac disease, dysphagia, energy boosting needs, infant feeding needs and more. One of the Specialty Food Shop’s greatest accomplishments is serving the needs of unique patient populations from SickKids and across Canada. These populations include individuals with metabolic disorders, cystic fibrosis and patients requiring assistive feeding devices. The Specialty Food Shop manages Ministry of Health programs that provide these patients with the products and services they need to live well.
The Hospital for Sick Children is one of the largest paediatric academic health science centres in the world, with an international reputation for excellence in health care, research and teaching.
